Wire Magento and drive off

Yireo Blog Post

If you haven't heard about Magewire, you should: It allows building complex scenarios in Magento in much less time, provided that Magento (server-side) is the source of truth. On April 17th, we are organizing a Magewire hackathon and you are invited.

The success of Laravel Livewire in Magento

In Laravel, after the success of TailwindCSS and AlpineJS, Livewire was introduced to solve a specific problem: Whenever you would build a rich webapp that needed to communicate a lot with its backend (Laravel), regular JS frameworks (Alpine, React, Vue, Svelte) would require you to write a lot of AJAX calls simply to wire the backend with the frontend. Livewire automates this process, so that you simply could add calls to backend classes to your templates, while Livewire simply takes care of all required AJAX calls.

Willem Poortman (now working with Hyvä) picked up on Livewire and migrated things to Magento as well: Magewire became a thing. Even cooler, once Hyvä discovered the potential of Magewire, they decided not only to wire Willem but also to base the Hyvä Checkout on Magewire as well. But there is much more you can do with Magewire: Convert old Alpine-widgets to Magewire, add Magewire to the backend, create product configurators, product finders and a lot more. Time to get started with it, if you haven't already.

First a Hyvä Checkout training, then a hackathon

On April 15th, Yireo is organizing a Hyvä Checkout training. Little promotion here, because it is already booked full and the training will be repeated somewhere in the summer. But for attendees, it is a nice opportunity to see how things are being integrated into the Hyvä Checkout.

And then two days later, there is the opportunity to play around with things even more, during a hackathon. Already, various attendees of the training have signed up for the hackathon too. But at a hackathon, there is always room for more.

17th of April: Magewire hackathon in Baarn

In October, a day prior to Meet Magento NL, Michiel Gerritsen and I organized a Magento hackathon. And because we both found Magewire pretty interesting, we picked a few topics for playing around with Magewire. And we were not the only ones, almost all attendees found it interesting to dive into Magewire. Even cooler, Willem Poortman also attended. And that got us thinking about organizing another hackathon - but this time, dedicated to Magewire: Not a Magento hackathon but a Magewire hackathon.

Willem Poortman and I will be attending. And this also sets part of the todo list. Willem is eager to work on the upgrade of Magewire towards Livewire 3. I'm eager to work on Magento Admin Panel support. And there will be many small tasks to be picked up, leading from these two larger portions of work. Ofcourse, you can also work upon something else. Simply to be in the room together already will get the sparkles in there.
